"Hey Kate, weren't you supposed to have a really long work day?" Well friend, I sure was until after three hours at work the pain in my left arm was so bad that I couldn't do anything with it. I've had what felt like mild nerve pain in that arm for two-ish weeks, but the past two days it was impeding my ability to sleep. Today at work, I could barely lift anything. So I took myself to urgent care, and lo and behold I have injured my median nerve. (It's the same one that's affected when you have carpal tunnel syndrome.) So my arm, from shoulder to elbow to hand, hurts. My thumb hurts. I have it in a brace right now so as to move my wrist as little as possible (especially when sleeping - did you know you can get carpal tunnel from sleeping with your wrists in a certain way?) and I'm just kinda annoyed by it all. I am very grateful that it's my non-dominant hand though. Tomorrow (if anyone's open) I need to call around to schedule an EMG with a neurologist, which will help determine the state of the nerve, and also see if I have to make any special work arrangements. (I'm already not allowed to use the arm at work for the next few days. I'm also hoping to see an acupuncturist, funnily enough. I'll keep you guys updated!
