October 31st

Happy Halloween! Be safe tonight, friends!

I had a SPOOOOKY x-ray today! Because...bones? Spooky! I don't have any broken bones, so that's good! My chest just hurts from the airbag. And my knee is so bruised. But I am okay! Just sore!

It's very nearly November! Woohoo!

I wish I didn't have to work tomorrow, but I guess I do need the money.

I'm talking to my most favorite Brad right now. It's always nice to end the day on such a good note.

October 30th

So I was in a car accident today. I'm okay, albeit sore, but I'm going to get checked out at the doctor tomorrow anyway. My car is totally wrecked though, so I have no vehicle. That's my news for today.

October 29th

Very chilly. Very sleepy. Today was a long and cold day! I have to go grocery shopping tomorrow, I was too tired to go tonight.

October 28th

Work went better than expected! Yay! I also got my first ScentBird order today, which is exciting! This month I chose Eau des Merveilles from Hermès. I want to try it tonight, but I also finally found my sample of Coco Noir from Chanel, and I'm in a Chanel mood lately.

October 27th

Woohoo, crazy work day tomorrow! And then four more days of probably crazy work! Today was pretty relaxing though, although I slept wrong when I napped and I've had a shoulder/neck/headache for the past couple of hours.

I played some more Undertale today. That game is freaking amazing. I highly recommend it.

October 26th

Hi friends! I finally have a day off tomorrow, I'm so excited! Except it will be followed by five days in a row of very busy days, especially Wednesday. I get a three day weekend* (*Monday through Wednesday) after that though, so it'll be okay. Plus money! Yay!

I'm in a shopping mood. I also need to get my eyebrows done. I'm thinking tomorrow is gonna be a mall day.

Still trying to get some commissions done for my Twitter icon. *throws money at strangers* DRAW MY FACE PLEASE.

Brad and I love cats and soup. We first started talking a year ago, how crazy is that? I'm so happy I met him.

Good evening lovelies! I am so sleepy! I'm gonna sleep early because I have to be up early for work!

October 23rd

Perfume of the Day: Dahlia Noir from Givenchy

Unlike most of the reviews of this scent, I actually do get a bit of a "noir" vibe from this one. My skin plays up the sandalwood a bunch, as well as the patchouli and tonka bean. It's very creamy, sensual, and warm. There's some powdery undertones, and a bit of floral wisps here and there, but for me, this is not the powdery floral that so many others get. I had my mother try this, and it smells entirely different on her. I must say though, the way it smells on me is so delightfully rich yet still somehow airy, it's very unique. It's almost like the softer sister of Versace's Crystal Noir.

Notes: Rose, pink pepper, iris, sandalwood, vanilla, patchouli, tonka bean, mimosa, mandarin orange

October 22nd

Thank goodness I don't work until 10 tomorrow morning. I didn't sleep well at all last night, and I had awful nightmares, and I didn't nap I'm super tired. And I wanna sleep in. I still have to get up around 8:30, but that's better than 5:30.

I bought a bunch of music from Susanne Sundfør tonight. I also started listening to Fever Ray thanks to Brad. Have some music, friends!

October 21st

I am a very sleepy lady! I got a lot done today though. Doctor's appointment went well- I'm going to be switching up my meds which makes me super nervous, so hopefully it goes well. I'm at my dad's house tonight and I'm all bummed out that I didn't bring down a perfume to test. Also, I miss Cas.

I have tomorrow off, and then a very hectic spree of days at work. Wish me luck!

October 20th

Lots of ups and downs today. Feeling a little out of sorts. And hungry. I dunno. Tomorrow should be better. It's payday, anyway.

October 19th

Oh man. Turns out doing audit on short notice, without at least partially adjusting your sleep schedule, makes it ten times harder to stay awake. I did get some damn good sleep when I got home today though. And some more this afternoon. (My sleep was interrupted by the doorbell.) I just wish I didn't have to work tomorrow, but luckily it's a short shift and not at 7:00 AM, either.

Dear Serge Lutens: Can I have a bottle of Un Lys for like $125? It doesn't have to be the fancy cloche bottle, it can be the regular, smaller 50ml bottle that the regular collection comes in. But I don't have $285. And I am in love with that perfume.

October 18th

Guess who decided to take the overnight shift tonight since our auditor is sick? This girl. I'm so tired. I don't know why I agreed to this. I could sleep for eight hours right now, and instead I'm working for the next eight hours. Sigh. I can do it!

October 17th

Got some long-needed closure today, thank goodness. I feel a lot better about a lot of things. I have tomorrow off from work too, so it's shaping up to be a decent weekend. I may go to a bonfire tomorrow night, too.

I have so many new perfume samples/bottle and I don't know what to test tonight! I'm thinking Classique by JPG.

October 16th

So much perfume today! All of my swaps came at once! And I smell amazing! I'm super cozy in bed but also super hungry so I feel like I'm in hunger limbo. Like pee limbo, when the amount of cozy you are is the exact amount of how much you have to pee so you get stuck in pee limbo.

October 15th

Back to work tomorrow! Really wish my stomach didn't feel so off. I'm gonna try and get some sleep! I hope you've all had a great week!

October 14th

I had a pretty productive day today! I got groceries, mailed a bunch of packages, and got my flu shot! Now I'm all cuddled up with Cas. I also went to PetSmart to get him new food and litter but I forgot my coupons so I decided to just look at the animals instead. I met three really nice snakes and a tarantula, a really friendly kitty, and a chameleon who sat like a person! I didn't realize how much I liked chameleons until today.

October 13th

Work was actually really great today! It was like the ideal work day for me. Just the right amount of stuff going on. I meant to go to Target afterwards but I had to go home and change first, and I never ended up going to Target. I guess that's a tomorrow thing!

October 12th

Ahh, today was interesting. I got a phone call at 8:00 this morning telling me my doctor was out sick. Her next available appointment is the 21st. So I scheduled that, of course, but damn. I was really hoping to chat with her today. I can't hold it against her because I know damn well that being sick at work sucks, it just happened to be super inconvenient for me.

On the plus side, my Sephora order came today, and I have three perfume swaps in the works now! I'm getting so many things I've wanted for ages, I'm really excited. Swaps are great, because you get to give someone something they want and you get something you want, and all you do is pay for shipping. Then the perfumes you don't use don't go to waste, and you save money on new perfumes! Because I obviously need new perfume. Always.

October 11th

Feeling a bit off again tonight. Some anxiety, lightheadedness, that sort of thing. A little restless. I think I'm just super stressed/overworked right now. Luckily I get to see my doctor tomorrow, so I can tell her what's been going on. I have two more nine hour shifts coming up, 8-5, and those shifts just really mess me up. Eight hour shifts are like my maximum, and 8-5 shifts encompass the two more stressful times of the day, massive check-out time and massive check-in time. It's absolutely draining, and break times are erratic, and it just hasn't been working out with me so well. I don't know what to do, or how to approach my manager about it. Mental health is such a tricky subject. Hopefully things go well, though.

October 9th

Oh, Long Johnson. I need a week off to recuperate. I am so tired. Tonight it is pizza and kitty cuddles all the way.

October 8th

I'm so drained. I did not have a fun work day. I'm exhausted and cold and I feel gross. I'm gonna sleep and I don't even care if I wake up at 3 AM because my whole body hurts and I'm so tired. And tomorrow is gonna be the same thing. And the next day. God I can't wait for Sunday.

Wednesday, October 7, 2015

October 7th

Tomorrow and Friday are going to be very busy work days, and I get to work...extra hours! One of my coworkers is unfortunately sick and can't come in, so I'm in an hour early each day. I work on Saturday, too. I have Sunday and Monday off, but I have to drive down to the cities for a doctor's appointment. Bleh. I also need to get my flu shot! I think I'll try and do that tomorrow after work.

So, Un Lys by Serge Lutens. I like it a lot. I wanted to buy it. Turns out it was moved to the "exclusives" collection, so instead of $100 for a bottle, it's $300. You get 25ml more and that's it. Not even a full fluid ounce more. It comes in a really lovely cloche/bell jar but from what I understand, it's actually not a spray bottle, which seems complicated for a bottle so big. And I definitely don't have $300 to spend on 75ml of perfume, even if it is the nicest lily scent I've smelled thus far.

October 6th

Welp. Time for some Game Grumps and bed, because I'm sleepy. And then waking up at 3:30 AM and not falling back asleep! I know how this works! Luckily my schedule is different tomorrow and I can take a nap much earlier, and I think that ought to sort me out.

Lonestar Memories has some insane staying power. I can still smell it on my wrists (faintly, but still) and it's been like 15 hours since I put it on. Andy Tauer be crazy, yo.

October 5th

I've got a case of the sleepies! The problem with going to bed this early though is that I know I'll wake up around 3 AM and that I won't be able to fall back asleep. It's been happening a lot recently. I think it's because I get so stressed knowing I have to wake up in just two hours that my mind can't relax so I just lay in bed thinking about how my alarm is going to go off and how the longer I think about it the less I'll sleep, but then I never get back to sleep. It's very frustrating, and usually means I'm super tired after work and end up napping for longer than I should, which also doesn't help.

I meant to buy bread after work today but I didn't. Now I don't know what to do for lunch tomorrow. I may bring a frozen pizza. I need to go grocery shopping so badly, but I have to wait until Wednesday to do most of it because that's payday. I'll probably just buy bread then, since I only work 7-11 AM on Wednesday. Baby shift! But it's going to be a super busy morning and they need an extra helper.

October 4th

I've just applied some new fragrance for testing, hooray!

Today it's Incense Flash from Andy Tauer.

So, this is obviously an incense-heavy scent, as the name implies. I think a lot of people get the wrong impression about what incense in a fragrance means, though. It's not one of those scented incenses that you find at a head shop or anything like that. It's just a smoky smell, really. This also has leather and some woodsy notes, so it's certainly on the more masculine side. It is very much like an uncomplicated version of Lonestar Memories. Tauer's Flash perfumes are meant to be just that though, uncomplicated. They have a very small note pyramid and really focus on just one note. (He also has Rose Flash and Vanilla Flash.) Incense Flash seems like a good, cozy campfire scent, perfect for this time of year. It's one that I'd really enjoy smelling on a guy. I don't really believe that any fragrance has to be for a certain gender, despite certain things being attributed to men and women. (Men get aquatic, woodsy, and herbal scents; women get floral, fruity, and gourmand.) I'm happy to wear scents marketed to any gender, or those marked as unisex, so long as they smell good. But this one happens to be one that I'd rather smell on a guy. Definitely something that I would find sexy. Lonestar Memories, which is similar, does have the same "masculine" qualities but dries down quite sweetly. This seems to be very rough and dirty, and unless the wood sweetens things up later, this is like the men's equivalent of a soliflore - and a good one! Guys, give this one a whiff. It's very easy to wear, no bizarre notes, and definitely a crowd-pleaser, but still unique and very high quality, as Andy Tauer does so well!

October 3rd

Work was damn busy today. This whole week looks like it's going to be a doozy!

I'm eating corn dogs and grateful for a day off tomorrow before the madness. I'm watching a movie with friends and then bedtime, I think. Good night, my friends!

October 2nd

Fragrance review time!

This is Un Bois Vanille ("vanilla wood") from Serge Lutens. I had high hopes for this one. I've been testing out some vanilla scents lately, just in time for colder weather, and this one looked perfect. Vanilla, licorice, coconut, sandalwood, benzoin. Delicious. However, that's not quite what I got. Un Bois Vanille is a very pleasant vanilla scent, but it's simple. The complexity of the notes didn't really shine through, and while it's totally wearable and nice, it also smells exactly like my Cinema Secrets makeup brush cleaner. Since I love Lolita Lempicka so much, I'm always hunting for another great, but different, licorice scent. This one isn't it, I'm afraid. If you're a lover of vanilla, give this one a go. Serge Lutens does make great scents. But on my skin, it was almost exclusively vanilla and not much else, the other notes just mixing together into some amalgamation that smelled like (good) makeup brush cleaner.

October 1st

I figured out why I was so baffled by Lys du Désert yesterday. It doesn't smell like lilies or the desert. It smells like Misia by Chanel, albeit with a different drydown. None of the notes are the same though, which is confusing. I'm not sure why they smell the same on me. I do like Misia better though, and the two are comparable in price so it's not like I found a cheap dupe. (Lolita Lempicka's L'eau en Blanc is the closest to an inexpensive dupe that I've found.) I also posted on the Fragrantica forums yesterday that I was looking to try out some more lily-based scents since I really like L'artisan's Passage d'Enfer and Guerlain's Lys Soleia, and someone offered to send me some samples from when she was testing out lily scents earlier this year! How kind is that? Fragrantica is such an awesome community.
