February 28th - Oh snap!

Tomorrow is March! What is my life? Where is the year going?

I need some time for leisure reading. Is it Spring Break yet? Speaking of Spring Break, I have no plans. Any suggestion? Anyone want to take a wild trip with me? You do? Awesome, let's do it.

GusLink ladies are hot, by the way. As if you didn't already know that.

February 27th - Almost March

It's almost March! Where did February go? I mean, February is the shortest month, but it still went by super fast! And now I get to realistically start getting excited for Spring Break! Not that I have any plans (yet!) but I'm still very excited to not have to be doing school stuff. I have way too much homework.

Also, my phone isn't working. When I'm on a call, the other person can't hear me. Apparently this is happening to a lot of iPhones and now it's happening to mine. Phooey. Make it work again!

Tomorrow is Monday. Where did the weekend go?

February 26th - The Vagina Monologues

I got to go see The Vagina Monologues tonight, and let me tell you. It was totally awesome. It was the perfect blend of humor and spreading awareness about FGM (female genital mutilation), rape, etc. I even straightened my hair and wore my new fox shirt for the occasion! Anyway, all of the performers were excellent and if The Vagina Monologues is ever happening near you, I implore you to go see it!

February 25th - Movie night!

Tonight is Friday night (obviously) and instead of partying or whatever it is that the cool kids do these days, I'm watching movies with Brennie. We just finished The Land Before Time, which was basically the most depressing movie of all time. Who knew? We're about to watch Lion King, which is also sad, but I'm excited nonetheless. We're also working on coloring pages, and I'm doing Gaston! What a stud!

February 23rd - Good night moon

I'm super tired right now. This is the point at which I rejoice that my first class tomorrow isn't until 1:30, because that means I can sleep in until like 10:00 and still finish up my homework before going to class.

Myth and Meaning is a little brutal right now. There's so much to do for every class. For real, we have to right a paper for each time we meet. And read like 100 pages. Luckily, the professor is absolutely amazing. She is one of the kindest and most passionate people I've ever had as a professor. We spent some time on Tuesday talking about suicide, and she said the most brilliant thing: "If you don't live, you don't give yourself a chance to move on to something better." I seriously wrote that down right after she said it. It's so smart and thought-provoking. I really do like her. Even though she gives us way too much work.

I watched Pride and Prejudice last night for my Film Adaptation class. I actually ended up liking it. It started off pretty slowly and it was hard to understand if you didn't understand the book entirely, but it really grew on me. Oh Mr Darcy...swoon!

February 22nd - Laundry Day!

Doing laundry here is a pain. You have to drag all of your clothes down to the depths of the building. Then, if you're lucky, one of the four washing machines will be open. If not, you put your clothes in at a staggered rate - which is worse, because then you're always waiting for that one last load. Right, so then your clothes get washed. The, on to the dryers from Hell. For some inexplicable reason, there are more dryers than washers. Unfortunately, only about three of them actually work well. The other three take over an hour to dry your clothes, if you're lucky. Then once you've been doing laundry for a ridiculous amount of time, you have to haul everything back up the stairs. But you're not done. Then you have to fold it, and sort it, and hang it up...and if you're me, it has to be hung up in groups according to color, so that's even more work.

Anyway, I just put my clothes in the wash. The journey begins!

February 21st - Overwhelmed

I suppose listening to really intense music right now isn't helping with my stress levels, but I need loud music to block out some sounds I'm hearing. Haha.

So anyway, we had shortened class today and my Macroeconomics professor decided to have us do even more work than we usually do, including learning new stuff and do worksheets on was so overwhelming. Why aren't there more hours in a day? I need more time to study!

Also, there's a blizzard occurring right now. It's not really that cold, but there's just so much snow and the flakes are so huge and kind of icy so walking outside is kind of a pain. And I fell for the first time today! I wanted to make it through the winter without falling. I mean it was only a half-fall at best - I just went down on one knee like I was proposing, and then stood right back up - but it was still annoying. And I have work tonight, which means I might fall again. The sidewalks are so icy and Olin is so far away and I doubt the snow will have let up too much by then!

February 20th - Rocky Horror

Brennie and I just watched was interesting, as usual. Tim Curry is delightful though! I have all the songs stuck in my head now, so that's fun.

I have a late start tomorrow because it's a blizzard! My 9:00 class is at 10:50!

I'm Skyping the love of my life, Miss Sarah! I adore her!

February 19th - What, what, what are you doing.

I am the proud new owner of Kix cereal, some more Oaxaca chocolate, and Scooby Snacks.

I've only seen a few drunk people staggering around today. Oh, and I haven't gotten puked on! (That happened to someone I know last year. Yikes.) I'd say that makes today a success. (In case you non-Gusties have forgotten, it's Case Day today!) So yeah, I've been out with my dad tonight and that's all the excitement this day has brought me. Then again, the night is young!

Jesus Camp really was a terrifying movie.

February 18th - Jesus Camp

I'm watching the movie Jesus Camp right now. Brainwashing kids? Oh sure, that's fine. Just scare them into believing, that's totally what God wants. These people are so ridiculously close-minded, and it frightens me to think about that.

So there's that. I need to watch a different movie after this so I don't feel like punching the TV.

They are saying some churches are "dead" and only these Evangelicals are proper Christians. Seems like they haven't read the Bible that they're so obsessed with. There's this certain quote...

Romans 8:1 "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."

Just saying.

February 17th - Is it the weekend yet?

Well, is it?
It's not?
Awwwww. :(

This has been such a long week. I'm already super stressed about classes and it's only week two. Screw the weekend, I want summer.

It's okay, I made a Disney playlist to keep me happy.
Disney makes everyone happy. I hope. If not, he or she may be broken.

Did I mention we get to watch Hercules in my Myth and Meaning class? The Disney version! With all the wonderful songs and oh my goodness I'm already super excited.

I'm going to go to bed early tonight.

February 16th - Let's get down to business

I do need to get down to business. I randomly just have a ton of homework tonight. And only two classes tomorrow! What is this tomfoolery?!

I use antlers in all of my decorating!

I could sure go for some leisure reading right now.

February 14th - As per request

Hi Nikki. Look, you're in my blog! Just like you asked.
So right, I had work tonight and then afterwards I hung out with these totally awesome people including the one and only Nikki Niles. Jealous? I guess there were some other, less cool people there too.

I have to watch Sleeping Beauty for homework. What a challenge! I like this film class.

Aaaand I have a ton of reading for Myth and Meaning.

February 13th - So tomorrow is

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day and stuff...and I guess I don't really care all that much. I have class and work and that's about it. Just another day for this girl right here.

That's about it I guess. Tomorrow begins another week of class. Woooohoooo.

February 12th - I can't talk

I like...can't form coherent sentences. My brain must be malfunctioning. I'm about to watch movie and I'm pumped. I might watch more later. I love movies.

I have so much reading to do still. It is the first weekend and I'm already overwhelmed. Speaking of interesting weekends, next weekend brings about the one and only...CASE DAY. Which I will not be participating in, by the way. But it'll be interesting to watch I suppose.

February 11th - My Newest Companion

A few days ago, in preparation for the poster sale at our school, I bought this awesome tape that sticks to brick. I have never been able to put anything on the brick wall of my room since nothing stuck, but now that has been remedied! I have a brand new poster on my brick! And you know who's on it? Only the man with most gifted pelvis ever...

also I guess Marilyn Monroe is there too

So now I've got approximately a million pages of reading to do this weekend, and as I'm sure you can guess I'm ridiculously excited. Good thing I'm reading only the most scintillating things, like 30 pages about supply and demand curves.

In other news, I feel awesome since I just cleaned my room. Also my aunt and uncle sent me a start of semester care package. So that's all happy and stuff. Woohoo!

Thursday, February 10, 2011

February 10th - Sporcle

Brennie and I are on Sporcle and not doing homework...but it's okay.

I'm hungry. And I like my job.

Also I miss Anfo.

February 9th - Classes pt. deux

So a quick overview of my other two classes that I have yet to mention...

Myth and Meaning seems like it's going to be a doozy. Lots of reading and memorization and stuff. But the teacher is really awesome, so that will definitely help. Film Adaptation or whatever that class is called is totally going to be the easiest thing of my life. It's mostly watching movies with a bit of reading in between. So psyched! Oh, and Ponyo was bizarre.

Now I have some reading to do for both of those classes, so that ought to be just joyous.

Tuesday, February 8, 2011

February 8th - Ponyo

Brennie, Kelsi and I are watching Ponyo for our Film Adaption class. And that's about it. I'll tell y'all about class tomorrow.

February 7th - New Semester!

So today I started two of my four new classes, and I think overall it went quite well! Hooray! My first class was Faith, Religion, and Culture, and a lot of the things we're going to be talking about are things I learned about in Bible Lit last year, so I'm really excited about that. I wonder how the version of the Bible we're reading will tell the story of Moses and the exodus...if you recall, I had a great rant about that last spring in the 2010 blog...

"I was reading ahead for Bible Lit, and I'm about half way through the Moses story in Exodus. I obviously was meticulously noting the differences between the biblical text and Dreamworks movie, but one thing in particular stood out to me.
God foresees Pharaoh being obstinate and not letting the Israelites go, does he not? Turns out the reason behind this is that God is making Pharaoh obstinate. As in, Pharaoh feels bad and tells Moses and Aaron that he will free the Israelites, and then God is like, "Nah, this won't do. I'm going to make all of the Egyptians suffer some more even though Pharaoh is repenting." So he makes Pharaoh not let them go. Wasn't the whole point to get Pharaoh to let them go? I mean, I can understand God being angry and sending the locusts, the darkness, and so forth, but God killed Pharaoh's son because Pharaoh was obstinate. And it was God that made him like that! Does that seem a little messed up to anyone else? I was really frustrated after reading this. I'm going to read my Bible as opposed the the packet one that D-Lo gave out and see if another translation lends itself to a nicer God and a more cruel Pharaoh.
Also, the cattle get wiped out, and then suddenly they're back and just get killed again. Where did these new cattle come from? This happens twice. Kind of a "what the heck?" moment, as D-Lo would say.
Time to go read some Bible!"

So anyway, the prof for that class is also really great. She's enthusiastic and smart and sort of reminds me of my high school psychology teacher. There's going to be quite a bit of reading for that class, but most of it looks pretty good.

The other class I had today was Principles of Macroeconomics, which I actually think is going to be better than I thought it would. The professor has been teaching the class for like a billion years and he really knows his stuff. Also, he pronounces Friday like "Frydee" and I like that.

More to come on my other new classes in tomorrow's post!

Sunday, February 6, 2011

February 6th - Movie night!

Hopefully tonight, my last homework-free night for a long time, I'll be watching some movies and loving the fact that I don't have anything to do. Possibly The Descent and/or Dead Poets Society. Yay!

So yeah, classes start tomorrow...woohoo.

Saturday, February 5, 2011

February 5th - Tangled

Pia and I watched Tangled tonight. It was really good! Rapunzel looks super excellent with short brown hair, too. You should watch it! It's kinda sad though. ;O

Anyway, school starts on Monday! Ahh! Wish me luck, yo.

Friday, February 4, 2011

February 4th - GAC again

I'm back at Gustavus! I'm not sure why I'm so enthusiastic sounding though. I start classes on Monday and I have a feeling macroeconomics is going to be quite hard. I also have 18 books this semester! Huzzah! I'll be doing a ton of reading, that's for sure.

In other news, Valentine's Day is coming up! I don't really celebrate it or anything, but it's still kinda cute.

I have 35 books (that I own) in my room. I am running out of space in this little habitat of mine.

February 3rd - They're here

There are Girl Scout cookies at my house. I'm taking a box back to school. I'm gonna get so fat you guys. SO FAT.

Anyway, today was pretty uneventful. Did laundry, went to Target...that's about it. My life is so fascinating!

February 2nd - Movies

As you lovely people know, I did in fact see Black Swan last night. Then tonight I decided to continue my Academy Award nominated film watching spree...or seeing The King's Speech! Hooray! Both movies were quite good, and the acting was just excellent. Helena Bonham Carter is so brilliant! I also totally jumped at one part in Black Swan when the mom is standing in the shadows looking like a freaking murderer. That was horrifying. Anyway, now I've got to see The Social Network, and I also want to see True Grit solely to see Hailee Steinfeld. Any other movies I should see?

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

February 1st - Black Swan

Well, I'm about to head off to see Black Swan, and I'm really excited! I'm also planning on seeing True Grit, The Social Network, and The King's Speech this week. Needless to say, I'm super excited. I've also had the chance to watch Ellen and Oprah since I have cable at home. I love Ellen so much. :)
