Fragrance review time!

This is Un Bois Vanille ("vanilla wood") from Serge Lutens. I had high hopes for this one. I've been testing out some vanilla scents lately, just in time for colder weather, and this one looked perfect. Vanilla, licorice, coconut, sandalwood, benzoin. Delicious. However, that's not quite what I got. Un Bois Vanille is a very pleasant vanilla scent, but it's simple. The complexity of the notes didn't really shine through, and while it's totally wearable and nice, it also smells exactly like my Cinema Secrets makeup brush cleaner. Since I love Lolita Lempicka so much, I'm always hunting for another great, but different, licorice scent. This one isn't it, I'm afraid. If you're a lover of vanilla, give this one a go. Serge Lutens does make great scents. But on my skin, it was almost exclusively vanilla and not much else, the other notes just mixing together into some amalgamation that smelled like (good) makeup brush cleaner.
