Sigh. No perfume tonight because after work I took a nap, and then inexplicably woke up with an awful sore throat and runny nose. So I am miserable and also can't smell anything. Not fun at all. I have no idea where this came from, or why so suddenly. I was fine at work!
I guess I'm going to try and get to sleep early and hope that by tomorrow I'm sorted out. No colds! Not fun! Who gets a cold this time of year anyway?
I am rather chilly and very sleepy! I work bright and early too, so I'm about to head to sleep! I feel like I didn't sleep at all last night and I didn't have any time to rest before work today since I had to drive home.
Perfume of the Day: Bois Farine by L'Artisan Parfumeur
Incredibly unique. It smells exactly how everyone said it would smell, but of course I had to see for myself. It smells like flour. It's absolutely bizarre. I don't think I'll be getting a full bottle of this one, but it's one I really wanted to try. And the folks at L'Artisan were kind enough to send me a few more samples, one of which looks super amazing and different, one of which looks kinda funky, and the third is one that I already have a sample of - but haven't tried yet, so I don't know if I like it yet. My favorites from them are still Tea for Two and my newer discovery, Fou d'Absinthe. And damn, I want to try Ananas Fizz, but it's so hard to find since its discontinued, and I don't want to blind buy a bottle! I think The Perfumed Court had samples though, just pricy ones. Pineapple perfume sounds good though!
My wonderful little sister graduated from high school today! How'd she get to be so old? (And yet she's so young still.) It was a rainy day and my god that graduation ceremony was in a warm room with uncomfortable seats, but I am a proud big sister nonetheless!
I just took one heck of a good nap. Today was the longest shift I've worked in a long time, and while it wasn't hard or anything, I felt all those hours once I got home! I had dinner and talked to Brad and then it was nap time. And man, am I glad my blog alarm exists. I don't know if I wouldn't have woken up in the next two hours. I was so soundly asleep. Now that I'm awake, of course, I'm hungry and I have to pee and all that.
I have a deluge of perfume reviews coming! Possibly tomorrow! Soon though.
I work audit next weekend! Two nights of 11 PM-7 AM shifts. So expect blogs at a strange time, and possibly short ones too if I put it off til just before I leave for work. And then I get to see how well I can stay up all night!
I've noticed a potential problem with my schedule. Wednesday I go into work at 11:00 PM and work until 4:00 AM. I just looked at my post-audit training schedule and noticed I work 8:00 AM-5:00 Pm on Thursday. So...I come home for three and a half hours and then go back to work for nine more? When do I sleep?
Okay. Staying up late is usually pretty easy for me, but doing it at work is a whole different story. It's so quiet there, and while there is stuff to do, it's not the most stimulating. I can't wait to tell you guys about the first time I work a 11:00 PM-7:00 AM shift. That'll be an adventure!
Hello friends! Looking at me, blogging early! Guess why I'm blogging early? Because I have to! I'm going to work now. I haven't gone to work at 11:00 PM since that time I worked Black Friday at the Mall of America. This while probably not be as chaotic as that. However, I will be doing this tonight and the next three nights, so expect both early blog entries and possibly a very sleep-confused Kate.
Today was a rainy, blah day. I'm going to try and do something nice tomorrow to cheer me up. If the weather is night, I think I'll try and go for a walk.
Tonight is apparently not the night where I start blogging earlier. I got up at 10:30 this morning and haven't stopped doing things since. I've been to two malls, the car dealership, out for lunch, doing laundry...very busy day. Plus the drive down here is not particularly short. It was an okay day though. I did a little retail therapy after feeling very unattractive while trying on clothes. New mascara solves everything, right? I'm super tired though, and I have three more loads of laundry to do...those will have to wait until morning, it seems!
My sleep schedule is totally messed up. This would be fine, considering the fact that I have night audit training soon, except that I have to drive down to the Cities tomorrow for an appointment at the car dealership which means I have to get up early. It does mean I get to do a bunch of laundry at my dad's place, but I really wish I didn't have to be there so early.
I'm so sorry for blogging this late in the evening, I don't have time to write out a proper perfume review for the past few scents I've tried! Tomorrow I'll try and blog at a more normal hour so I don't feel so rushed.
This morning was hellish. I got a knock on the door at 8:00 AM. It was my landlord and a maintenance guy. Apparently my neighbor had water leaking in her apartment, so they needed to check to see if my apartment was okay. Where would the water be leaking, you ask? In the corner of my closet of course, under many boxes and bags. So I had to empty out everything on the floor of my closet (mind you, my room was NOT clean - so this whole deal was embarrassing on top of being annoying) and put everything on the floor of my room. I got the all clear in my carpet not being soaking wet. Sweet. Except then the maintenance guy comes back. Says there's a problem with the pipes. (No shit. My bathroom ceiling has collapsed more than once since I've moved in here.) So what does he need to do? Take out all the shelving and the clothing rod from my closet to access the ceiling. So I then have to empty my entire closet of clothes, more boxes, everything I store in there. He comes back with a plumber and they cut a hole in my closet ceiling.
By doing this, they determine that they in fact should just redo the piping because something is fucked up. This will involve not only opening up more of my ceiling, but also going through the wall in my bathroom. However, this will not be occurring until next Wednesday. (You know, the morning after I work an all-night shift, some guys are gonna show up for four hours and invade my house with loud noises. It's great.)
So these two dudes, plumber and maintenance man, have been in and out of my apartment for like three hours at this point. They finally leave. I can finally sleep. ...Wrong. My landlord knocks on my door just as I'm getting ready to nap. Gives me some updates. Lets me know they're going to give me some money off my rent for the now four times my apartment has had to be ripped apart. Tells me I'm all good to put everything back in my closet until next Wednesday, so I proceed to shove everything back in.
Okay, so finally time for a nap. Wrong again. Less than half an hour later, some other guy shows up. He's the carpet guy. He needs to look at the carpet in my closet. You know, the closet I just filled back up. So I have to take everything out again. He determines that there may be some dampness in the corner. So he rips out the carpeting from my closet. Brings in a giant vacuum. Scares the shit out of Cas and laughs about it. Does something or other in the closet for a few minutes. Says he'll be back "later in the week" to put my carpet back. No clue when. I can't put my things back in the closet now, of course, because the floor is all exposed. It smells like wet sheetrock. (Which is not a nice smell.) I don't know when he'll be back.
I couldn't nap after that. I was so stressed out from the constant barrage of people in and out my my apartment that I was super in edge. I felt like I was going to hear another knock at the door any minute and have to let more people in to rip apart more things.
I don't know what to do. All of my belongings are on the floor. It smells funny. These people are coming back to tear shit apart, and I have no safe place to go during that time. I don't know where Cas will go either. I just want my apartment to be normal.
What a nice day off! I caught up on some YouTube videos, napped, and just generally chilled out. I also finally received my bottle of Tauer's Lonestar Memories, which is extremely exciting! And to add to the excitement, I found out that Andy Tauer (owner of the line and perfume creator) actually signs a card that comes with each scent you order! So now I can say I have the autograph of one of my favorite perfumers. My L'Artisan discovery set came as well - two of which are duplicates of the minis I got from Sephora, but there are eight others to try - and most of them seem really promising. Plus the samples I received with my LuckyScent order are all really interesting (I tried another Tauer - Noontide Petals - which seems like an aldehylic delight), so I have so much to try! Not to mention my countless other samples...
I think I've discovered that I don't really enjoy tuberose, which is a shame because one of my L'Artisan minis as well as two of the samples from the discovery set are tuberose-heavy. (One, Les Chasse Au Papillons, is the same scent that I have as a mini.) The other mini, Mure et Musc Extreme, unfortunately also doesn't seem to be my taste, so I may return the minis to Sephora. I could also swap them, but I'll be down in the Cities this weekend anyway so a trip to Sephora could easily be arranged. I'm really excited to try everything though! My apologies for not posting as many reviews lately, but I've been sampling so many things lately, and I've also been quite busy! I'll do my best to get back on top of providing better reviews.
Sometimes you order a perfume mini on eBay and the seller sends you the wrong thing by mistake. And sometimes when you message them to tell them they sent you the wrong thing, they respond within the hour saying they'll send the correct item tomorrow, and that you can keep the mini that they sent you by mistake so you don't have to pay money to return it. I gotta say, that's a really awesome thing to do. There are a lot of sketchy, rude, dishonest, and otherwise not good sellers on eBay, but this person (named Helene) is fantastic.
I also got my L'Artisan minis from Sephora, but I'm going to try the mini from Helene first. I ordered Alien Sunessence Legere as a mini instead of the full bottle and she sent Angel Sunessence Legere instead. I feel so bold, owning an Angel fragrance! I've never tested the original Angel on my skin but I want to, so this will be a good dip into the water of that crazy gourmand.
I'm feeling like wearing cologne to bed tonight. I didn't sleep well last night, and tonight I wanna be cozy. Work was a little crazy today due to weather, but hopefully tomorrow will be easy! There aren't too many people to check in or out, so I'm just hoping for a chill - but not boring - day.
I overdid it on the dry shampoo by accident. I forget how much comes out when the bottle is new. I am a powdery mess.
It's a stormy night here! We were in a tornado warning for a bit, but now the sirens are off. It's just an intense thunderstorm now, it seems. Lots of thunder and lightning! I also feel a little unwell, so I took some Pepto. Luckily I'm talking to Brad, so I feel a little better about my stomach and the storm. I love that boy!
I'm going to try and get some good sleep and have a call night tonight. I hope you all have a good night!
Work was indeed crazy today! And I start my overnight audit training in about a week and a half. We only have to work two audit shifts (one weekend) every six or so weeks since it's on a rotation basis, so it's not too bad, but starting work at 11:00 PM and not leaving until 7:00 AM is...unpleasant sounding. Just the thing I need to mess up my sleep schedule! It's all good though. At least the shifts are generally not very hectic.
I'm expecting mail tomorrow! Yay! I love expecting mail. Nothing wakes me up faster than my doorbell. I move like a wild woman when I know my package is here. I'm so weird.
Tomorrow is looking like it'll be quite a long work day. Hopefully the time flies! I didn't do terribly much today, so I'm just going to have a chill night, eat some oranges...and some ice cream...and then try and get some good rest before work!
I do believe it's time for me to eat the second half of the footlong I got from Subway today. No, I didn't need a footlong from Subway. But I got one anyway. I'm being stupid with my money today, apparently. I'm thinking of returning the brush set I just got from Target though, because it's shedding all over me and I don't really like the brushes. I've also decided to resell my Alien Sunessence perfume. And yes, that means I'll be losing money on it. But upon receiving it I've realized that it smell too similar to Alien Aqua Chic to warrant having both, plus with my new mini of D&G Light Blue, I think I've sated my need for a lemony perfume. I did go ahead and buy a mini of the Sunessence though, since I do really love it. It's 8ml and was only $9, so I don't feel too bad about having that around, in case I get the craving for Sunessence. But I don't need the whole bottle, really. Plus the longevity is really terrible - I know it's an EDT Legere, but still. It's like I never wore it today.
On the plus side, my Serge Lutens and Lolita Lempicka bottles are here now too! I've also got my L'Artisan minis on the way, plus the mini of Sunessence...plus a full-sized bottle of Dirty English. My very first favorite cologne, which I still love to this day, but I only own a tiny dabber of it and I want a bottle. I used to have a bottle, but I gave it to an ex. Haha. That one didn't have a lid though, so joke's on him. This one has the lid! No box though, but I can deal with that.
Speaking of boxes and bottles, I am literally out of room for displaying my perfumes in the tray they're in now. I'm not quite sure what to do about this. I did buy a little organizational tray for my samples/decants, but the bottles are growing in number and my tray is not getting any bigger! Im also seriously contemplating just buying Tauer's Lonestar Memories so I can officially just have every scent that I love. I have the money to buy it, it's just expensive. There are still other scents I want, of course, but that's really the last one now on my checklist of "loves." I want about five others as well, but not as badly as Lonestar Memories, nor have I wanted them as long. We'll see!
You know, usually when I get free samples from Sephora, I either end up not using them or using them once and forgetting about them. Today is a momentous occasion, because for the last two days I've been using the sample of the Smashbox Color Correcting Primer that I received with one of my order from a month or two ago (see, I just don't get around to using the samples), and I actually really love it. So much so that I went ahead and bought it! While I was at it, I decided to throw some money at L'Artisan Parfumeur and get their mini coffret set because that brand deserves my money for being so nice to me! And it was only $15, which is a great deal.
My FragranceNet order should be here tomorrow! I'm so excited! Also, my Nordstrom's order came in like literally a day which is insane. (I'd say what I got, but it's a gift for my mom! Shh!)
Sometimes you tweet about wanting to try a sample of an expensive niche perfume before you buy it, and then they respond like this.
Can I just say, what a wonderfully nice thing to do. They didn't have to do that. I didn't even ask them for a sample, I just said it was a scent I wanted to try before I bought it. I'm really impressed with them.
I'm also really impressed with my yummy ELDO perfume that I'm wearing today. Someone at work even said they liked it! That's one of the best compliments I can receive, really. I love when other people like hat I'm wearing!
Short shift at work tomorrow and then two days off! I love mid-week weekends!
I didn't sleep well last night, so I woke up very tired and sore. The made work a bit of a drag, as did the rain, but I was working with people I liked so all was well. (I like all of my coworkers, to be fair, but I got to work with someone I usually don't work with, so that was nice!) I tried taking a nap when I got home, but I slept funny again and woke up more sore than before. So now I'm just hanging out with Cas and kind of sleeping, kind of napping...all the lights are on and I'm hungry so I'll get up again sooner or later, but the rain is making me sleepy! And Cas is above me on my pillow, which is his new favorite spot. It's mostly fine, except when he lays on my hair. That kinda hurts.
I hope you all had a pleasant Mother's Day! I don't get to see my mom until the end of the month, but I gave her a call today. I love her so much!
This week I am keeping a very watchful eye on the mailbox! So excited!
Work was strange today. I came into the middle of one of the biggest rushes I've ever seen and then after it was done, the rest of the day was totally quiet.
I have to get up stupidly early tomorrow because I'll be working the shift that checks this massive horde of people out, so that'll be fun!
I may have purchased some perfume last night. And let me just say, I don't regret it. I found the best perfume deal I think I've ever seen in my life, which was a niche brand (Serge Lutens) on sale for half off. First off, niche brands don't go on sale. Sometimes sites will offer coupons, and those tend to max out at 20%. I got a bottle of Serge Lutens' 5 O'Clock Au Gingembre for under $60. That's kind of insane. The cheapest I've ever seen one before was $110. I am so, so ecstatic to get to add such a wonderful perfume to my collection! This sale was absolutely mind-boggling, so I also bought...two other perfumes. One was only $20 and came with a scarf that matches the bottle, which I think is the cutest damn thing ever. I'll have to show you all a picture when it arrives! And then finally I bought myself something I've wanted for ages and ages, which is the Eau Legere Sunessence flanker of Alien. I'm so excited to add these to my collection! There's really only one niche scent left that I really want a full bottle of, Lonestar Memories, but I've never even seen a sale on Andy Tauer scents. I may ask for that for my birthday, or at least money so I can buy it! That's the first niche scent I ever loved and also the priciest at $120 for 50ml, but I want that in my collection so desperately! It's just a fantastic scent.
I'm watching Game of Thrones with Mike and Hannah! I work tomorrow, but not until late. So I can be up a little late! I was up way too late last night though, so I'll probably try and go to sleep sort of early-ish.
I need to do a perfume review on Bond No.9's Chinatown when I'm not on TeamSpeak, because that was not what I was expecting from that scent. Did not like.
I just can't figure out Lumiose City. Other than that, Pokémon X went swimmingly. Not my favorite game of the series, but not my least favorite. I have two more legendaries to catch (I don't consider myself "done" with playing a Pokémon game until I do all the post-game captures/events), but then I get to start Alpha Sapphire, which I am extremely excited about because I like Ruby and Sapphire, plus I can have a team with Pokémon from all the generations now (I limited myself to just Gen VI Pokémon in this game, with one exception of the gift Pokémon that I received), and some of my favorite Pokémon of all time have Mega Evolutions now! I'm going to get an Absol and an Ampharos and an Altaria and they're gonna be amazing! And yes, I know those all start with the same letter. 'Tis a strange coincidence!
Do you ever mean to take a nap and accidentally just go to bed? I haven't had a good night of sleep in like four or five days and that finally caught up to me. If my blog alarm hadn't woken me up, I'm sure I would have kept sleeping. I seriously went to sleep at about 4:00 and I'm just now waking up. I feel great mind you, but I sorta thought I'd wake up before then since I was hungry when I went to sleep and also drank a lot of water beforehand, so I thought I'd have to pee. I can't believe how sleepy I was. And of course I dreamt about work, and not good dreams! I dreamt I was getting chided for being stupid about not understanding something with my paycheck, and then in my dream I left the desk for a moment and when I came back there were guests behind the desk checking themselves in and it was trouble and also just really a strange dream.
Anyway, I am now super duper hungry and ready for a yummy burrito!
Hello loves! Today was a pretty good day. Other than not sleeping too well and having to get up stupidly early, work was good and the rest of my day was pretty chill too. My allergies are starting to act up again (they're worse at night and when I'm at home), but I'm talking to Brad so it's all good. I like that guy.
And I smell good! Thank you, Le Parfum Eau de Toilette by Elie Saab!
Today has been a long day. My allergies are so incredibly bad right now and I can't take anything to help them because of negative interactions with the meds I already take. My eyes are so puffy and watery and itchy, my nose is running, and I feel like a mess. I look like one too. And Brad left today too, so I'm all bummed out. In the midst of all of this, my car decided to have a malfunction where the alarm would go off for no reason at all every thirty or so minutes. The dealership was extremely nice and let me come in even though they didn't have any appointments until next week. So I'm super grateful to them for that. (I also had them replace my burt out headlight while I was there, because why not.) But the lack of sleep last night due to allergies plus the car troubles plus the sadness of Brad going home plus the now worse allergies is just making today seem like it's gone on for quite some time!
I just watched the latest Game of Thrones episode to take my mind off of the fact that I can barely see (I even took out my contacts, which I rarely do, and my eyes are still crazy), and I am slightly baffled by the direction this show is taking. Did the crew just stop reading the books? Do they not care? what is their endgame? I don't know anymore!
I hope my allergies are better before work tomorrow. Actually, I just want them to go away and never come back. That'd be awesome.
Happy weekend! I spent all day cleaning and it totally tired me out. So stressful! But now Brad is here, which is awesome. He's a good guy, that one. My perfume of the day is one I haven't written about before (I think) but I can't blog for long because I gotta be a good host!
I beat Pokémon X last night! Or really, this morning at like 4:00. But we'll say it was yesterday because it's before I went to sleep. Yay, beating the game! I still have a legendary to catch, but really, I beat the main game. Elite Four and all that. They weren't too hard actually- Gen V is harder, man.
Happy May! Work was mostly good tonight, and now I have a long weekend! And I get to spend it with a super cool person!
Also, my new perfume came today and I am ecstatic! It's so pretty and the box is even pretty and I'm just in love.
But since I already know what that one smells like...I decided to wear one of the samples they sent me instead! Depending on how much you spend, they'll send you a certain amount of samples for free. I got three samples - and you get to request which samples you'd like - and I tried one out today.
Perfume of the Day: Tea for Two by L'Artisan Parfumer
Notes include tea, spices, honey, tobacco, anise, cinnamon, and ginger.
Serge Lutens' Five O'Clock Au Gingembre has taken up smoking in this scent, and it suits it. This is a smoky chai tea with exotic spices and a definite scent of tobacco, and also mellower and softer than Five O'Clock. However, it does retain the sharp ginger notes. I can imagine someone who loves the scent of pipe tobacco loving this scent. It's warm and cozy, yet has a kick to it. It's absolutely unisex as well. It's more of a fall/winter scent but I feel comfortable wearing it this time of year as well. When it comes down to it, I do prefer Serge Lutens' take on the gingery tea scent, but this one is a close runner up. I'm so excited to have found something I like from this brand, too! I'll definitely use up my sample and I'll enjoy doing so.
